About the Igbo Nation Project

About the Igbo Nation Project
Preamble
WE ARE ALA-IGBO. We are the architects of our own destiny.
“Igbo is a nation or the national identity of the ethnic Igbo people. The land they
occupy is called Igbo land, the people are known and called Igbo, the culture they
practice is Igbo culture, and their language is Igbo. The Igbo are a national people
that fit perfectly the current United Nations categorization and definition of who
national peoples are. And it is based on that definition that they declared in their
charter that any such group of people are legitimately and legally entitled to
actively seek for their self-determination and can aspire to be independent of all
others and exist and thrive o their own terms as a unique cultural and national
group or state.” – Osita Ebiem
We the Igbos (Ndi-Igbo) are an ancient people with a current population
estimated today in the 10s of million in present day Nigeria. We are a people
with a history of separate and independent existence that goes back for
thousands of years. We the ethnic Ibos began to lose our freedoms when
Britain, lumped us together with several other ethnic groups to create
Nigeria. While circumstances caused us to be in Nigeria, we are reluctantly
with other nations in Nigeria, peoples who are constantly chasing after
conflict in Nigeria where there is so much hatred, fear, suspicion, malice,
demonization, pretense, hypocrisy, arrogance, and exploitation making it an
unworkable nightmare for us and other peoples of Nigeria. We the Igbos
have since suffered persecution and genocide in Nigeria, and are
determined to reclaim our freedoms, autonomy, and separate existence.
“Igbo as a people are unique and clearly identifiable with their own unique set of
culture, language, a set of unified customs and norms and a specific physical
geographical space. They, therefore, can justifiably seek to determine themselves
or
who they are. They do not need to offer any other qualifications or reasons as
basis
for them to seek to be independent and autonomously manage their own affairs
without any input or interference from any other people. But because it is true the
Igbo can still make references to the issues of unjust systemic mistreatments,
marginalization, killings, and other such injustices to which they are subjected in
Nigeria.” – Osita Ebiem
Our right to the pursuit of freedom, prosperity, and happiness as a people
We the ethnic Ibos are a people bound by our conscience, honour, and selfpreservation to assert our humanity by rejecting and fighting injustice,
tyranny and oppression and standing up for and protecting their freedom.
Ibos are known throughout history for this.
In the tradition of our ancestors as Ibos are known throughout history for resisting
tyranny and oppression, it is only natural and should not come as a surprise to
anyone that Ibos today will continue the fight until we free ourselves from the
tyranny and oppression that we are facing in Nigeria. In the good tradition of our
ancestors, we are continuing our struggle for what is right and just, before
man, and before our Creator, in exercising our right to establish a new Igbo
nation state. This right to establish our Igbo nation state rests in our right as
a people to life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. It rests in our right
to self-determination and self-preservation, as a unique and ancient people.
The vision of our great Ala-Igbo nation State
The purpose of the Igbo Republican Movement (IRM) is to establish the
Ala-Igbo nation State, which will be based on the following values:

  1. The total unquestionable control Igbo political space by Oha (the
    people);
  2. The people (Oha) are in control;
  3. The Igbo form of governance (Ohacracy);
  4. Collective leadership;
  5. The rule of law (no sacred cows or no selective amnesia);
  6. Accountability;
  7. Transparency;
  8. The unshakeable stand on truth;
  9. Return to the Ibo way of life (the path left us by our ancestors, built
    on truth (“Eziokwu bu Ndu” meaning Truth is life);
    10.Respect and none-interference of the way of life of other nations (“Odi
    be ndi, Egbe belu Ugo belu”)
    In a nutshell, power is returned to Oha (the people), so that our Ala-Igbo
    nation State is one where leaders are servants of Oha and step down if and
    when Oha is unhappy with their service.
    In order to achieve this the IRM will:
    (1) Re-educate, Re-orientate, and Re-align ethnic Igbos. Igbos have
    been denied the truth and realities about their original identities
    through the instrumentality of hate propaganda and misinformation
    IRM will reach out to our people and all Igbos wherever they may
    reside. We understand the particularly important need for all Ibos to know
    and to remember that we are Ibos, that we have a nation known as
    Ibo nation or ALA-IGBO with our peculiar customs, traditions and
    all other traits and life activities that makes us an incredibly unique and
    special people. The IRM also exists to ensure that through our
    genuine activities, all Ibos all over the world will be made to
    understand the very importance of “Onuru ube nwanne agbala
    oso” meaning that all Ibos, no matter where we find ourselves,
    must remain our brother’s keepers;
    (2) Unify Igbo territories. As part of regaining control of our political
    space, we understand the need to unify our territories which have
    been split into states, and to reclaim our balkanized territories. Igbo Nation
    regional administration (INRA) will bring all Igbos back together under one political
    space.
    (3) Act as a bridge builder, in modern reinvention of our people’s human
    resource/capital and economic re-integration into the mainstream global
    entrepreneurship. Ibo sons and daughters have already made an enviable mark at
    individual levels. Monumental evidence abounds due to participation of Ibos in all
    sectors of the world economy, as well as technological feats wrought by Ibo sons
    and daughters.” If we Ibos can achieve such feats at individual levels, we can
    imagine what we will achieve, as one entity collectively, if re-invented and reorganized as one ALA – IGBO nation.” – Egwuoto
